- Summary: Tess, Bear, and Finch are out living it up with their new economic windfall in Brief Lives when Buy Dotcom and Sim Synthia walk in and put a dour face on the party. Nevertheless, they manage to have some fun before Bear needs to leave. Shortly after, the mesh grid in Elysium goes down for 9 seconds at the same time a large crash throws everyone for a lurch. Getting up, they discover that an untracked meteor has crashed about 30 km from Elysium. The meteor seems to be emitting a periodic EM absorption for 9 seconds every 17 minutes. The rest of the time, the meteor emits high-level gamma radiation capable killing biomorphs over prolonged time. Given that it is a new find and that the first people to get to the meteor "own" it under Consortium laws, everyone suddenly rushes to the site. Tess goes for Pathfinder, Finch for Pax Familae, and many others as well (including Bear, who goes working for Mulder). The race to the site is intense, but most of the competition is swept away by the blast wave from the meteor as it crashes over the ground vehicles. The remaining chasers speed toward the meteor and the sleepy down of Desolation Row, just outside the crash site but seemingly unharmed. After Desolation Row, the party is set upon by ambush by Murdoch, a Firewall operative working for Gemini. At the crash site, the party also meets Killer and Deadmeat, who attempt to snipe them from afar to keep them away from the meteor. Gemini explains that the meteor is a potential X-risk and that she has special instructions for what to do with the meteor. Agreeing to a temporary partnership, the group sets off toward the meteor, but Finch is already there, having cloaked on gone on alone. She arrives first and her Psi trait activates a "door" in the meteor which she passes through. After "communing" with the meteor, she learns the truth: that this meteor was the secret mobile base of a TITAN named Daedalus and that inside are numerous experiments of his in a secret chamber. Tess uses rocket skates to get to the meteor before the others, finding Finch. They make a alliance of convenience and profit, agreeing to steal numerous artifacts from the ship and then seal it away before Oversight and Merriweather can arrive and take it from them. Among these artifacts are 3 Dream Shells, 1 Scour Ring, and a Femtobot Hive. The two then cloak, seal the entrance, and walk away into the Martian sunrise just as the Firewall team arrives to find a sealed meteor, with Merriweather arriving moments later to find them holding the bag.

- Summary: Bear wakes up from a long, hard caffeine crash. His secretary, Rachel, informs him that he's got several messages. One of them is from Professor Mulder, who commissions Bear to find Trance Lovecraft, an errant Experia metacelebrity. Apparently, she was out besmirching her good (and very profitable) name by associating with Barsoomian terrorists or some such. Mulder is paying a cut (from his anonymous client) an undisclosed fee for her (and her morph's) safe return. Meanwhile, Finch is busy still patching herself up when Monday wakes up bloody and broken. Without much memory left, he agrees to pay Finch the funds that she and Tess are owed. Bones collects Tess' fees for her, as Tess has left her body in the healing pod to be repaired while her ego shoots off on an emergency gatecrashing mission with a rental morph. After breakfast, Bear shows up at the Ambelina Estate looking for Monday, as it seems he wants to collect two bounties in one night's work. Finch and Bear agree to help each other with their missions. Not wanting to make smalltalk with Monday any more than necessary, Bear cuts off his head so that they can make the rendezvous at the White Door in Victoria Terminus. During this encounter, Melati Street enters the compound and it put into guest quarters. Bear and Finch speed off in their ferrari toward the train station, but are cut off by six speederbike-driving members of the Clowns Gang after Monday's bounty. With some excellent piloting, Finch manages to fly the car through several office buildings and fruit vendors unscathed while Bear splatters several gang members on the street with his assault rifle. Unfortunately, near the end of the engagement, a critical driving error results in the ferrari pancaking against a maglev train, destroying it. Bear and Finch manage to jump the train and ride it the rest of the way to the station, where they are assaulted by Grinder in full shock armor (also looking for the bounty). After dodging several missiles and energy beams, Bear and Finch manage to take out Grinder and shoot up Victoria Terminus (again). Reaching the White Door, they turn in Monday's head to Merriweather for the bounty. Afterward, the two take a cab west toward the Fringe to see about finding Trance Lovecraft. Starting off with a rathskeller, The Reality Dysfunction, the two manage to charm some members of the Pills Gang and get in a fight with the transgenic Yeti bartender, killing him. They manage to find Trance in another room talking to Buy Dotcom (of questionable nationality). Trance was trying to escape her life in Experia and find her daughter. By coincidence, the pair deduce that Trance's missing daughter is Melati Street, whom agree to give back to her in exchange for her giving herself up to them. They do, and they manage to collect the bounty from Merriweather.

- Summary: After waking up in a coffin motel and finding no gatecrashing jobs available, Tess reconnects with Finch and, after a brief conversation about Current Events, they agree to meet at Snow Crash for breakfast. While there, they meet Anya, a waitress on rocketblades, and Dross and Dr. Panties, two of Monday Bluehaven's cybertechnology lab partners working with him on a digital consciousness project. Monday failed to show up for their meeting there the previous night, and they remain waiting for him. After checking, Monday, a nephew of Experia, has a 500kC bounty on his head, dead or alive, from an anonymous source. The girls agree to take the bounty and begin checking into Monday's haunts. They check out his EU apartment and find evidence that the Night Cartel may be interested in him, he has outstanding winnings to collect at The Greasel Pit from his bookie Grinder, and that he was supposed to meet his girlfriend, Sim Synthia, at Pandora Market in order to bid on the Dream Shell auction. Tess' mesh searches reveal that Monday is always occupied at Victoria Terminus between 19:30 and 21:00 every night, and is usually followed by a group of Section 9 ghosts led by a woman in white named Merriweather. Eventually, Tess and Finch get to Victoria Terminus, where they find Monday being hunted by several bikers also after the bounty. Monday broadcasts a call for help, namely 200kC to get him out of there alive, and the girls accept. They fight and disable four of twelve bikers before stealing one of their bikes in order to escape the Terminus before Public Security secures the place. The girls narrowly make it out, but not before Monday and Finch are shot, knocking both unconscious. Tess takes them all back to Finch's compound, where she begins patching them up.
